Hope you guys are doing well! It has been way too long. Just saw your blog…Very cool. And I just saw your entry about your achilles injury. I am very interested in hearing more about your recovery. I partially tore mine around 2004 in the middle of a road race. Sounded very similar to your description. I did nothing much on it for the next 6 or 7 years and it got so bad that I was really limping around on it. After a lot of debate, I had surgery two years ago and it has made a big difference. Now I just need to get active again and lose all the weight I gained while doing nothing.
I’ll keep reading your blog. Hope we can catch up soon. Best, Niles
Hey Niles — and Sonja and family!
So great to hear from you. Thanks for the comment and glad you like the blog. Sorry to hear about your achilles issues. I feel your pain. Interesting that surgery was so successful for you – that’s great! A couple of doctors told me that surgery posed a higher risk of recurrence, but I kind of wish I had gone that route originally and wouldn’t have to still be dealing with pain and questions here and there. It will be an experiment to see how it holds up when I go for my next marathon and then the ultras I am looking forward to:)
It would be great to get together one of these days — maybe with Chris, too!
Let’s keep in touch,
Patrick
PS – you should try out some version of the 5kaday method. Might get you back into the running thing;) Maybe something like at least 3 miles 4 days a week for 3 months, then jump to 5 days a week, etc. (Just thinking out loud.) All the best!
A Stu/Shark/Shakes get together HAS to happen someday! I’m later than you guys with the comeback from surgery. My first big one was in 2007 (same ACL surgery Niles had up in Waterville) and coming back from that is what got me running in the first place. Now its the right knee and surgery was early February and I’m slooooowly coming back now. Love the blog and it would be awesome to figure out a way to get us all into the same location somewhere for a visit!
Thanks for like! I’m new to the blogging scene so pleased to see someone has read about my love affair with running. Looking forward to reading your blog!
Hey Matt – Thanks for the encouraging words! Hope your running is going super well these days. I just picked up a pair of Luna Leadville running sandals. They are something else. You would love them! Love you guys, Patrick

Shakes totally agrees. We have to make that happen. Good luck with the knee rehab!
